Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 26, 2026
Hop Tales is a read-aloud game for children learning to read. This policy explains what the Hop Tales app does with information. The short version: it doesn't collect any.
The app collects no data
Hop Tales does not collect or share personal information, and nothing you or your child does in the app is sent to us or to anyone else.
- Speech stays on the device. While your child reads, the app uses Apple's speech recognition set to run on the device only. The audio is processed on the iPhone or iPad and then discarded. It is never recorded, stored or sent anywhere.
- Settings and progress stay on the device, unless you choose to save them to iCloud. The child's name or nickname, their accent, help-voice and display settings, and their reading progress are saved on the device. Deleting the app deletes them.
- No accounts of ours. There is nothing to sign up for and no login.
- No analytics, advertising or tracking. The app contains no analytics, no ads, no tracking and no third-party SDKs. The only thing it ever sends over the internet is the optional iCloud copy described below.
Saving progress to iCloud (optional)
During setup, and later in the app's settings, a grown-up can choose to save progress to their Apple account. If you turn this on, the same settings and progress are kept in the private iCloud storage of the Apple account signed in on the device, so they're there on a new or restored iPhone or iPad and follow your reader between devices signed in to that account.
- It's your iCloud, not ours. The copy is stored by Apple in your account's private iCloud database. We can't see it, and it's covered by Apple's privacy policy.
- It's off until you turn it on, and you can turn it off at any time in the app's settings. Turning it off stops syncing and leaves the progress on the device.
- You can delete it. In the app's settings, "Delete saved progress from iCloud" removes the iCloud copy. You can also manage it in the Settings app under your name, iCloud.
- No audio is ever saved, to iCloud or anywhere else.
Microphone and speech recognition
The app asks for permission to use the microphone and speech recognition the first time your child reads. It needs both to hear the words being read aloud and move the story along. You can turn either off at any time in the device's Settings; the app will still open, but it can't listen while they're off.
Children's privacy
Hop Tales is made for children and is listed in the App Store's Kids Category for ages 6–8. We do not collect any personal information from children. Saving to iCloud is a choice for the grown-up who sets up the app, and it only uses the Apple account already signed in on the device. The app has no links out of the app, no purchases and no way for a child to share anything with anyone.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update it here and change the date at the top.
